Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I need to be employed to apply?
The expectation is that most applicants will be employed full-time. However, we do recognize that there are legitimate reasons why some otherwise qualified people might not be in paid employment. For example, those who are in career transition or whose current calling is to be a stay-at-home parent are encouraged to apply. We would simply ask that you write a description of your current situation.
Do I need to live in Raleigh to apply?
No. The program is open to everyone in the Triangle area (including residents of Durham, Chapel Hill and the surrounding region). However, the majority of Fellows will come from the Raleigh area, as the program is committed to the renewal of the city of Raleigh, specifically.
Whom should I ask for a reference?
Along with your application, you are asked to submit two letters of recommendation using the reference form provided. These can be any two people you choose; however, at least one recommender should be able to address your spiritual maturity. We encourage you to include one “professional” reference (a supervisor or manager from work) and one “spiritual” reference (a pastor or small group leader).
On the application we’re asked to provide our “Current Employment.” What if I am self-employed as (for example) a contractor or actor with various clients or production companies.
Note that you are “self-employed” on the application and briefly explain your employment situation in the area provided for “main responsibilities.” Since you are also including your resume, we will be able to see your work experience more fully there.
